Demand for IT Professionals

Employment of IT Support Specialists is projected to grow 10 percent from 2016 to 2026, which is faster than the average for all occupations.1 According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, more IT support professionals will be needed as organizations continue to upgrade and expand their computer equipment and software.

IT Professional Duties and Responsibilities Include:

Our program will introduce you to the common tools and technologies IT professionals leverage to support computer users in today’s businesses. Your job responsibilities will vary depending on your job title and the size and type of company where you work. Here is a small sample of what you could expect to do:

Computer User Support Specialist / Helpdesk Technician / Desktop Support Technician:
  • Provide technical assistance to computer users
  • Answer questions or resolve computer problems for clients in person, or via telephone or electronically
  • Provide assistance concerning the use of computer hardware and software, including printing, installation, word processing, electronic mail, and operating systems
  • Oversee the daily performance of computer systems
  • Set-up equipment for employee use, performing or ensuring proper installation of cables, operating systems, or appropriate software
Network Support Technician:
  • Test, troubleshoot, and evaluate existing network systems or segments of a network system
  • Perform network maintenance to ensure networks operate correctly with minimal interruption
  • Identify the causes of networking problems and document network support activities
  • Configure security settings
  • Analyze network data to determine network usage or disk space availability

Enrollment Process

The enrollment process at Unitek College can be completed entirely online. To enroll in the Unitek College IT Program, a prospective student must complete the following steps:

  • Career planning session and admissions interview
  • Submit proof of high school education or equivalent
  • Entrance assessment test
  • Admissions application
  • Enrollment agreement
  • Financing arrangements and, if applicable, all documents needed to obtain an official award letter for Federal Student Aid
